Birthday Parties
Plan a birthday to remember. Celebrate another year older in style when you throw your child’s next birthday bash at Holcomb Farm. We have an array of exciting, imaginative themed programs to delight 3-year-olds on up. Members pay just $95 to host a birthday event in one of our party rooms. Scroll down to find just the right theme for your birthday honoree, and then book your date!
Party arrangements. Parents provide the party supplies and refreshments. Programs are led by Holcomb Farm staff and last one hour; the room is yours for the following hour. Parents are responsible for room setup, cleanup, trash removal, and having at least 2 adults to supervise the party. $95 for members/$120 for nonmembers to host 10 children; $7 per child for each additional partygoer over the initial 10. Deposit of 30 percent to hold your date. Balance required 2 weeks prior to your party.

Hoppy Birthday Party
|
Ages 3 - 6 |

Wiggly noses and fluffy tails abound as partygoers learn the lifestyles and adaptations of rabbits through story, crafts and games. To add to the hoppiness, partygoers will have a chance to pet the Farm’s hutch rabbits. |

Nature Fairies

Holcomb Farm has been studying these elusive creatures and how they care for the
environment. Our typical party consists of a short tale/puppet show, an indoor craft
and an outdoor activity. |

Animal Farm

Get down on the farm and meet our sheep, ducks and chickens. We’ll feed them and then come indoors to appreciate the sensational wonders of snakes, other reptiles and amazing amphibians. |

Tea parties are a wonderful activity for children to imagine themselves in more genteel
surroundings. We’ll make our own placemats and doilies and set a special table with
fancy cups, saucers, flowers and refreshments. |

Star Lab

Visit our inflatable planetarium for a party that will make your guests starry-eyed.
We’ll show the moon’s phases, do some star hopping, and take a spin around Polaris.
Each guest will create a personal constellation and myth. (Additional $20 fee.) |

Friendship Jewelry

Polymer clay is popular and so much fun to work with. Each partygoer will design a
personal bead and then trade with others. By the end of the program, guests will have
a necklace or bracelet made with a bead from each partygoer. |

Journey to the Jurassic Age and imagine dinosaurs roaming the landscape. This program
is the perfect mixture of action and education, including a faux paleontological dig.

Nature Impressions

What wonderful tools nature hands us to create art. We’ll begin with leaf rubbings and leaf printing, and try cyanotype, a photographic technique using the sun. How perfect to use the Farm’s resources to make beautiful art. |

Paper Marbling

Watch the colors dance on the water while you create beautiful marbled papers.
We’ll make a variety of marbled papers and fold them into crafty cards and
possibly a picture frame or small box. |

Wigwam Wonders

Go back in time and explore the traditions and adventures of the Native Americans who lived in Connecticut. We’ll tell stories, grind corn, create a native craft and play traditional games, all at our authentic wigwam. |

Handmade Instruments

Partygoers will have an opportunity to construct an age-appropriate instrument
(for instance, drums, banjos, flutes) using simple materials. At the end, guests
will be ready to play in the band. |

Make an ordinary plate, glass or vase extraordinary. We’ll apply a variety of materials to transform these every-day objects into transparent wonders. Then, we’ll take a moment to appreciate how light affects our colorful creations. |

Kite Making

There’s nothing like a kite soaring high in a clear blue sky. First your guests will build classic sled style kites while we share high-flying stories. Then we’ll move outdoors and, with the wind at our backs, we’ll send kites aloft. |

Candle Making

Try your hand at wick ‘n’ dip, wax cutouts, lacey wax (using ice cubes), wax frosting, or sand votives. Whatever the technique, we’ll send your partygoers home with beautiful and practical handmade candles. |

Letter Boxing

After a brief history of letterboxing, partygoers will craft a signature stamp. Next they’ll receive a list of clues and head out in search of one of the letterboxes that’s been planted along the Farm’s
trails. |

Tie-Dye/Batik

Tie-dye is great, no matter what your age. Partygoers will tie dye a personal T-shirt, pillowcase or socks, and paint a small batik picture while learning the color wheel. Guests go home with one-of-a-kind art.

Learn to live in the woods like Daniel Boone or Lewis and Clark. We’ll teach your guests the skills of shelter building, fire making, stalking, and orienteering…all of primary importance if anyone’s ever caught in the elements. |
