Trails

Four seasons of beautiful countryside. Any time of year is a great time to explore Holcomb Farm as nature comes to life as you hike in spring. Marvel at your surroundings at the height of summer from horseback or stream-side as you fish. Bird watch and leaf peep simultaneously as fall rolls around. Then, come back in winter for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. There’s nothing like the Farm’s clean air and natural vistas to refresh your outlook.

Spend an hour, or the whole day: All Holcomb Farm trails are loops, forming an easy to moderate hike lasting up to an hour. If you’re looking forward to taking in all this terrain at once, or hiking onto the adjoining McLean Game Refuge or Granby Land Trust, plan on spending at least several hours. Simply follow the colored blazes painted on trees to stay on our trails

Traverse field and forest on the east side. Choose from 6 trails that take you through piney forest, across fields of wildflowers, and over trickling streams. Look for amphibians, grazing cows, and dozens of species of birds.

Walk along brook and ridge to the west. You’ll hike the hills and ridges that mark the beginning of the Berkshires, and cross the West Branch of the Salmon Brook, a tributary of the Farmington River. Look for white-tailed deer, box turtles, and even more birds.  How many birds? More than 60 bird species live at Holcomb Farm. How many can you spot?
