Letterboxing

A hike and a treasure hunt, all in one. Letterboxing is catching on all across the U.S. It’s a hobby that challenges anyone to follow clues that lead to a box hidden outdoors. Some clues are easy and lead you step by step to your destination; others are cryptic and require sleuthing skills. When you find the box, you mark the book inside with your personalized stamp—to prove you solved the mystery. Then, you stamp your own book with the letterbox’s personalized stamp—as a souvenir of your adventure.

Letterboxing for kids: Holcomb Farm has three letterboxes hidden on its property, just waiting for kids to seek them out. Want to get your children involved? Print out the clues on the Letterboxing website to Unlucky Clucky (moderate) or Four from One (moderate), or Bluebird (easy), choose a nice day, and come hike the Farm. All you’ll need are: your list of clues, an ink pad, a rubber stamp, a notebook, and a keen mind for solving the riddles that lead to the boxes.

Letterboxing for adults: Anyone’s welcome to place a letterbox on Holcomb Farm property for others to find. If you’re inclined to sponsor your own letterbox on our property, please contact Melissa Vanek at jletendre@holcombfarm.org to let us know where you placed your letterbox, when you placed it, and your name and phone number. You can also sign up to maintain one of the Farm's three letterboxes.  You may also wish to explore letterboxing.org to learn more.
