Holcomb Farm's Summer Day Farm Fun Camp provides a safe, nurturing environment which encourages children to explore the working farm, the natural world and their own creativity as well as meet new friends. Set on our 367-acre historic farm in West Granby, campers may hike our 10 miles of trails, study creatures of the Salmon Brook, help care for our farm animals or learn how to grow veggies! Each week features a different theme filled with adventure, learning and FUN!
Programs for children Grades 1 - 6 run from 9:00am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday. Campers can choose from a full-day week or a half-day week. Nutritious snacks will be provided in the morning and afternoon, but full-day and afternoon half-day campers should bring thier own lunch packed in paper or plastic bag with their name on it to enjoy during lunchtime (noon - 1:00pm). Every day campers will enjoy our FARM FRESH program which allows them to pick-in season veggies from our gardens and learn how make them into healthy and delicious treats!
JUNE 28 - JULY 2
Grades 3 & 4 Toil in the Soil
Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow? Come learn how! This week we will learn all about plants and how they grow. You'll get a taste of life on the farm as we work in the gardens, make and mix compost and build scarecrows to keep pests off our fields.
Grades 5 & 6 Happy Harvesters
There's a whole world beneath our feet! Come explore it with us as we grab our shovels and investigate the world below. We will learn about different types of soils, the animals that live in them, and how to work with the soils to grow food.
JULY 5 - 9
Grades 1 & 2 Farm Frenzy
Summer is a busy time at Holcomb Farm! Through a variety of activities, campers will learn what it takes to be a farmer. We will meet our farm animals and get our hands dirty planting and tending the crops. We will harvest some veggies and learn how to make them into tasty treats.
Grades 3 & 4 Kick It Up a Notch
This week is all about fitness, nutrition and being good to our bodies. Each morning will start with yoga to awaken our minds, bodies and spirits and prepare us for a fun-filled day. We will learn why and how to make healthy decisions about eating well and staying active by playing games, hiking and preparing healthy foods.
JULY 12 -16
Grades 1 & 2 Into the Woods
Whether hiking the trails, frolicking in our fields or splashing in the stream, we will spend the week exploring our natural world. Each day will involve exciting nature adventures such as searching for animal habitats, identifying local plants, building fairy homes and various nature crafts.
Grades 3 & 4 Much More to Explore
Join us as we explore the fields, forests, and streams of Holcomb Farm. We will become junior scientists and use our investigative skills to learn all about the natural world around us.
JULY 19 - 23
Grades 1 & 2 Water Wonders
Can't get enough of the water? Join us for a week of watery adventures, awesome experiments and cool games all about water. Be sure to dress for some wet and wild activities as you learn about all the neat stuff water can do!
Grades 5 & 6 Into the Wild
Off we go into the wild blue yonder! This week will require bravery, courage and a sense of adventure. Join us as we learn basic survival skills such as how to read a compass and build shelters.
JULY 26 - 30
Grades 3 & 4 Go With the Flow
Where, oh where would we be without water? Come explore the wonders of water and meet some of the creatures that live in its depths. We will learn the importance of water while playing lots of water games.
Grades 5 & 6 Water Wizards
Splish! Splash! Come down to the farm for a week of water adventues. We will learn all about water, what it can do and the critters that call it home. Make sure to bring your swim suit for a fun-filled week of exploring the stream and wet & wild games!
AUGUST 2 - 6
Grades 1 & 2 Take a Walk on the Wild Side
From scavenging skunks to bumbling bears to flitting finches we will explore the fabulous world of our local animals. We will be building habitats, learning about adaptations and making different animal crafts. Get ready to go wild as we learn all about the furry friends that inhabit our forest!
Grades 3 & 4 Where the Wild Things Are
Let the wild rumpus begin! Come explore our farmyard and forest and learn about the animals and the places that they call home. We will learn how different animals have adapted to live where they do, what they need to survive and how we can give them some help along the way.
AUGUST 9 - 13
Grades 1 & 2 The Green Machine
Sustainability is the name of the game and one is never too young to learn the various ways to reduce, reuse and recycle! We will spend this week on the farm learning all about how to appreciate and protect our natural world and the resources it provides us. We will build a new compost bin for the farm, make crafts from receycled materials and learn fun ways to make "greener" choices a part of everyday!
Grades 5 & 6 Get-n-Green
Come be inventinve with us as we explore ways to harness the energy of the sun, water, and earth to heat things up and make things move. We will have challenges throughout the week to see if we can generate power without every plugging anything in.
Cost: $230.00 per week per camper
Deposit of $50.00 per camper per week due upon registration to reserve your child's place. Payment in full is due no later than June 1.
CANCELLATION POLICY: If you wish to withdraw your child from camp after you have paid in full, you must notify us, in writing, one month prior to the beginning of camp (June 28, 2010). You will recieve a full refund. If you withdraw within two weeks of the start of summer camp, 1/2 of your fee will be refunded. No refund will be given for reservations cancelled within 13 days of the start of summer camp.
